Allkind since 1970

A family business, manufacturing timber joinery since 1970.

In 1970 the ALLKIND vision was to preserve and continue the great Australian tradition of craftsmanship which went into every classic Queenslander home. Timber was the passion, and crafting high quality bespoke joinery was and remains the ALLKIND aim.

The business grew from humble beginnings into the company we now see today. Still located at Rode Road in Chermside, an inner Brisbane suburb which is perfectly situated to provide quality joinery throughout South East Queensland.

The business continues to grow and is now part of Bretts Timber & Hardware, another family owned and operated company.

Allkind since 1970

Bretts, a Queensland icon still strong after 100 years.

Bretts have been talking timber and hardware for over 100 years. In the 21st Century, Bretts is structured around five major divisions, each one stemming from their timber and hardware origins. Frame & Truss; Windows & Doors; Trade Timber & Hardware; Trade Fasteners; Locksmiths and Commercial Hardware; Trade Plumbing Supplies.

Bretts has been part of the Queensland building landscape for over a century. In 1918 B.C Brett & Co was established and shortly after purchased Brisbane Sawmills, the largest sawmill in Brisbane that operated on the former site of Bretts Timber & Hardware on Newmarket Road in Windsor.

Bretts draws on the experience and knowledge built up over the past 100 years, to offer builders and tradespeople the most comprehensive range of timber and building materials in the Queensland.

Bretts remains a staunch independent in today’s rapidly changing market. And while flexible enough to diversify where necessary Bretts sticks rigidly to values that reflect the importance of tradition, quality and family.

Allkind since 1970

Innovation, technology and old fashioned workmanship.

Our team has decades of experience working with Australia’s best builders, architects and designers.

Our custom timber doors and windows are skilfully hand-crafted in our joinery workshop, where we’ve been making joinery since 1970. A lot’s changed in that time, over the years we’ve continually upgraded our workshop with modern machinery, but always faithfully maintain traditional construction methods.

Our unrivalled product quality stems from our passion for timber and our joinery making processes.

We pre-hang most joinery to ensure accuracy before delivering to your site. We fit hinges and hardware and can also pre-seal/prime your joinery. Installation is no problem; we can arrange this also. Our drafting team will check all measurements on-site and prepare construction drawings before moving to the production phase. Our drafting team and estimators are always happy to answer any questions you may have; their knowledgeable advice is always available.

Common timber species.

We craft our doors and windows using only the finest, sustainably grown select-grade timbers, many are locally sourced for their rich grain and durability.

Our timber has been rigorously tested in the Australian climate and carries the Allkind stamp of approval. We offer a wide variety of timber species and can assist you in selecting the right one for your specific application.

Key factors to consider include the joinery location (indoor or outdoor), type of joinery (window or door), strength, durability, appearance, sustainability, workability, and the required level of finish.

While this may seem like a lot to consider, we provide expert guidance and recommendations to help you make the best decision.

Available timber species include Accoya, American Oak, Amoora, Blackbutt, Surian Cedar, Western Red Cedar, Merbau, New Guinea Rosewood, Tasmanian Oak, Victorian Ash.

Allkind Joinery

Factory to home, the Allkind process.

To ensure you receive the highest quality service and products, we adhere to a strict, proven five-step process for every order, regardless of size. Exceeding your expectations is our top priority.

The Brief: We begin with an initial consultation and showroom visit to understand your needs and gather any prepared materials, such as drawings or plans.

Quotation: Based on your brief, we prepare a project quote, subject to site measurement if applicable. Once accepted, we provide a manufacturing schedule and timeline, aligning with your building program. We will also inform you of lead times for timber and materials. If you do not have a pre-approved trading account, a deposit will be required before proceeding to the next stage.

Check Measure: Before manufacturing, we visit your site to verify all measurements. Adjustments to the quotation may be necessary if site measurements differ, requiring a variation payment. If manufacturing from your plan, we do not check measure on site. Construction drawings are drafted and approval requested.

Production: Our workshop then proceeds with making your joinery according to the agreed schedule.

Delivery and Installation: Joinery can be inspected prior to delivery, with final payment made before final delivery. If installation is requested, we hand over to our installers upon delivery.

To start the process book an initial consultation and showroom visit.

We don’t charge for quotes, they’re free. Showroom appointments with our Joinery Consultants are also free (available in-person, or by phone or video call).

Quotes and showroom appointments with our Joinery Consultants are free of charge. We don’t however offer free initial measures. But, there’s no need to worry! We can get started on a quote for you with a few quick details: the items you’re after; approximate required sizes; and photos of the opening/existing space. (and please don’t forget to let us know your contact details!). Our experienced design and drafting team will then come out to site to do a check measure once your quote has been accepted and job progresses, prior to manufacturing. We also prepare shop drawings, which you can review and sign off on, before we make your joinery.

There are a few ways you can get in touch with us to discuss your project and get a quote. Whichever best suits you! You can request your free quote by using our simple online form, email us [email protected], call us (07) 3359 3025 or in person by visiting our showroom at 594 Rode Rd, Chermside QLD 4032, however, please make an appointment first.

We can get started on a quote for you with a few details: the items you’re after, including the type and an idea of the design; approximate required sizes; the site address; and your contact details; photos of the opening or existing space; and for larger projects, architectural plans, a door and window schedule and an energy efficiency report; preferred timber species; pre-sealing or pre-priming; delivery or installation.

Absolutely. We can supply, deliver or install only to our local area which is around South East Queensland, please check with us for the availaibility of these services in your area. For on-site work including site measuring and installation you will need to work with a local tradesperson.

We manufacture new complete window and door units, rather than on-site repair type work. But, we’ll do our best to help. To assist with repair work, your best option is to engage an experienced carpenter subcontractor. If you are lucky enough to have a beautiful Queenslander home and some of the older timber windows are beginning to show their age. You could choose between either: (a) repairing parts of the windows; or (b) replacing the windows with new ones. We can help with option (b) by replacing you damaged windows with new quality timber windows, custom-made to match the existing. In fact, we specialise in heritage style work. For examples of our work View Our Gallery.

No, we custom make timber doors and windows. We’re not set up for kitchen cabinetry work.

No, we’re not able to offer one-off / walk-in glass sales or glass cutting. Our factory glazing crew work within our production team, focusing on glazing our timber doors and windows.

We believe in making beautiful, natural products with longevity, in your home for life. We favour and recommend quality, select grade hardwoods with durability fit for our Australian climate. Most commonly, we commonly use New Guinea Rosewood or Accoya for our joinery and New Guinea Rosewood, Merbau or Amoora for our frames. However, we can also source most species of timber available in Australia, including Tasmanian Oak, Spotted Gum, Silky Oak, Western Red Cedar and American Oak. We also custom make internal doors, which can be manufactured using pine. We do not recomnend using softer, paint grade timbers such as Meranti or Pine for external applications.

We can apply a pre-seal (i.e. clear coat) or pre-prime (i.e. white paint primer) to your timber doors and windows for you, prior to delivery. This is a first coat only. You (or your painter) will need to apply the top coats i.e. stain / paint the joinery. It’s an optional extra, but most of our clients choose to have us do this for them. A key benefit of us applying the pre-seal or pre-prime for you in our factory is we’re able to do that before we do our glazing, ensuring a comprehensive application. If you choose to instead have us deliver your joinery as raw finish, you’ll need to seal or prime it within 24 hours of delivery. Timber is a natural product, so this is really important. We offer a full service and often allow for additional services, such as pre-priming or pre-sealing, that others might not. So, we recommend making sure any comparison quotes you have are true comparisons. If you’re unsure, you can always call your Joinery Consultant to discuss your quote.

Yes, your windows and doors can be customised with various types of glass to meet your specific requirements.

Yes, we can supply quality insect or security screens for your timber doors and windows. Retractable Fly Screens; we are a leading supplier of Centor‘s innovative retractable screens and blinds. We can source other retractable fly screen options as well. We can also arrange for the retractable screens to be fitted to our doors and windows. Depending on the application and what brand you choose, we can even integrate your screens in our timber frames (or if not possible, arrange for the screens to be retrofit externally). Timber-framed Security Screens; we can also custom make timber-framed security screen panels for some types of doors and windows (e.g. sliding doors and windows and entry doors).

Absolutely! We can custom make a timber frame for your louvre window to accommodate an insect or security screen. We allow for a timber trim to the outside of the window frame, which the screens fits on to. The screen finishes flush with the outside of the frame (this is called a reveal fitting, which we recommend due to its visual appeal).
